The Turnpike CIC was a bold, independent not-for-profit arts project with community at its heart, based in Leigh, Greater Manchester.

This web archive, titled Could this be paradise? reflects on our 5 years in Leigh, highlighting the community voices and artists who have worked with us to shape our organisation.

We want to say a huge thank you to our Turnpike family; the team members, volunteers, artists, community members, peer organisations, funders and supporters who have invested their energy, creativity and ingenuity with us over the years.

Learning & Young People
This Place [of Mine]

In 2020 we partnered with Future Everything and Wigan Council to bring This Place [of Mine] to Leigh. This exciting digital engagement programme explored young residents’ perspectives on the local built and natural environment and engaged them in cutting edge and experimental artistic projects. Two young producers from the Leigh area were recruited for the project and worked alongside other young people from across Greater Manchester to create an online ‘hub’ of visionary artworks and ideas.

Throughout the project the young artists and producers worked alongside a team of artistic collaborators, including international artist Tine Bech, five artists from the North West and design agency Studio Treble to create an immersive online environment that expressed their collective vision for the future.
